introducing the penny skateboard!

As an enthusiast in old school skateboarding, you could imagine my joy when I was told about the plastic Penny Skateboard.

the legendary Jay Adams, a figurehead of skating

The original skateboards that were first ever rode in the 70s were mostly plastic, and very small (see the film Lords of Dogtown).

In the picture on the right, Jay Adams is riding a plastic skateboard. He is massively known and respected by many skateboarders, and was a main member of the Zephyr Skate Team.

The Penny Skateboard was founded by Ben Mackay, who has been inspired by skating from a very young age.

The Penny Skateboard is a 22 inch plastic board, with a honeycomb pattern on the top for grip. You'd think a board made out of plastic isn't tough and wouldn't last, but the plastic contains a 'secret ingredient', which allows a car to roll over it without snapping it (many videos of this on their website and YouTube).

The board comes in a variety of different colour combinations (these are shown on the website). A new 2012 range has just been released, with coloured trucks, Penny cushions (especially designed for the new trucks), and exclusive Penny bearings and gumballs.

As well as this, Penny Skateboards recently created the Nickel board, exactly the same, except five inches longer and wider. It has a flatter kicktail and is known to be better for cruising. The trucks are an inch wider, but come in the same colours as the others.
The Penny 'Nickel' board.

As the company is Australian, you wouldn't find any shops around in the UK or anywhere else, however there are many websites on the Internet where one can be purchased. I got mine on firebox.com, however mine isn't one from the new range.

The Penny Skateboard is perfect for getting around town and is small enough to fit in a school locker or bag. Grip tape can easily be put on the board if the honeycomb pattern isn't enough. It has a perfect, smooth ride and really stands out hence the bright colours. It is a true joy to me and I am very proud to own one. If you are influenced by or into old school skateboarding and cruising then this is the board I recommend. It can also be rode at skateparks but I prefer finding perfect roads to carve or bomb down, or carparks. :)

iphone 3gs review

A few weeks ago, a couple of days after my birthday, I became notably interested in getting an iphone. I wasn't really fussed over which version, I'm not that technical - I had been told the 3gs was better anyway. So my dad got me one via onestopphoneshop.com. My contract is 5,000 texts, unlimited internet and 100 minutes for 26 quid a month. I was so happy with it.

Firstly, the iPhone 3gs is acceptably fast, the only thing I'd comment on is sometimes apps freeze and return back to the home screen, but that's only when you tap the screen repeatedly whilst it's trying to load. Other then that, I can fit all of my music, apps and pictures onto it, and it still isn't annoyingly slow. Very impressed

I also like the shape of it. I prefer it to the shape of the 4 or 4s, which is like a square. The 3gs has a curved back, which makes it comfortable to hold.

The only thing I dislike is how the camera isn't double-sided, like the 4 or 4s. So if I'm trying to take a picture of myself and my friend/s it's usually blurry and/or we're off-centre.

Other then that, everything is great. The text messaging system is brilliant, the speakers perfectly loud - in my opinion the newest generation isn't much of an improvement. :)
